Basic Question about Moving to IPTV

by lykedoctor

I'm considering something like iptvsubs and have seen their awesome development with their kodi channel guide. So I'm wondering if there is any way to mimic a cable box with DVR recording, and using a guide if it exists? Can i tell kodi to record a show and be able to watch it later? My wife would have a hard time cutting the cord without this option!

Right now there is no DVR support, to my knowledge with IPTV subs, so you might be SOL there. They do have a channel guide, referred to as an EPG (Electronic Program Guide) which is very accurate.

If you're looking to replicate a subscription service, forget it. I have a pretty good rig with a pay service and a fully customizable epg service. When everything is running properly, someone walking into my house would not know I was streaming TV from the Internet and would probably think it was cable or something. But unfortunately even pay services links go down or buffer and add-ons or Kodi have hiccups too, so there's quite a bit of regular tweaking that needs to go on. It's not a turn on, change the channel and forget it system

The lack of DVR ability isn't really an issue. You can just install a TV addon like Exodus or SALTS, and watch whatever show you want once it has aired.

what you should get is a MAG 254 box with a USB HDD

why MAG, because I heard it allows you to record from IPTV
