Questions from a IPTV noob regarding mac

by RAHatch

I've been told that the MAC address from a STB is locked to the IPTV provider. Is this true? Is there anyway to avoid that?

Also those IPTV providers who are offering free trials, will my MAC not get locked to them if I do the trial for a day for example?

My experience is your MAC address will get locked per provider. For instance, I ordered ipguys from one reseller, I tried to order ipguys from another reseller but could not as the first reseller had locked my MAC address. I had no problem switching to another provider though (iptvsubs).

If you buy some real stbs, the Mac address of the box is locked. Some you can change. If you run android, with stb emulator, you can change the Mac address at will.

Regardless it will not get "locked" into a provider. They will (on their side of things) enable the provided Mac address to access their network. It's like an ID and password in one. That's why your supposed to treat it as one because once people have your Mac id , they can change theirs to it and use your subscriptions.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am thinking about going with tecfront.ca, they seem to be the direct sellers and not "resellers" and therefore hopefully more reliable. Does anyone have any negative experience with tecfront?

Even retailers can "lock" your Mac to their service, I've experienced this first hand...
