MAG256 vs MAG254 ?

by ianjohnspain

Hi,

I have been doing a little investigation and want to purchase a MAG, i was thinking of going for a 256 but it appears that only works if the service provider supports stalker middleware 5.0 and above. It appears there are some service providers that do.

Would you recommend I got for 254 or 256 ?

I know in the past there were issues with MAG256 but maybe these have been sorted now ?

What percentage of Service Providers would support the MAG256 requirements ?

Thanks in advance

I don't know about the 256 but most providers seem to support the 254 so it seems as a sure thing to get it working.

If you have to get a mag, I'd stay with the 254.

If you're looking for a higher performance box, I'd recommend stepping over the the newer quad core 4k Android boxes that allow apps to be installed, such as the avov tvonline4 or blazing fast dreamlink t1.

Other Android boxes will work via emulators and such, but for the extra 20 bucks grab something that works natively. You won't regret it!

Good luck! Let us know what you get!

The Mag256 has more ram 1Gb.

The Mag256 supports H.265 (HEVC), in case you want to use the mediaplayer (or maybe some hvec iptv streams in the future =4k)

The Mag256 has USB 3.0

I'm also about to buy one of these boxes and am actually hesitating between these models and the newer (upcoming) ones like MAG351.

I am not sure I understand why a provider needs to "support" or "be compatible" with Stalker middleware. Are these boxes not able to simply take a M3U list and play the various channels (like VLC or Kodi)?

I also have another question about the MAG boxes. Is it possible to record TV programs (.TS files) locally on a USB drive or NAS?

Or should I consider Wetek instead?

Get a mag 254 and then get one good wifi adapter if you need one.
