Best IPTV solution for my mother?

by that-mark-guy

I was quite surprised to hear via my sister that my Mum has asked for "one of those tv box things" for Christmas. Only thing is I've had quite a lot of glitch trouble with Kodi / Android - nothing hard for technical folk like me (I'm a dev) to sort but for my mum who lives alone it would be met with an uttering of "stupid thing" unplug or constant tech support calls to me :)

So I'm looking for the most stable & user friendly thing possible. I've never used a mag254 box and have heard it's rock solid / much faster than Kodi at switching (as Kodi apparently software emulates something the Mag hardware does on-chip?), but the videos I've seen online show a UI which looks like the menu system on a cheap DVD player from the 2000's.

Is Mag254 the best way to go for stability, and if so, are there any custom themes which give a bit better appearance to the UI?

Also- what's the best option for UK channel coverage with good VOD selection? Feel free to PM me as I know there are some quite hidden options out there.

If you want to get her an Android box, then you want Tubi TV, UKTVNOW, Mobdro, Movie HD lite, Showbox Lite, Newest movies HD, HD Cinema, Megabox HD, Terrarium TV, and then SPMC with your addons (Android fork of Kodi). Otherwise you would want to get her a Mag and get her whatever service(s) you would think she would like best.

Wow, come on resellers. Stop using this as a way to market your service.

If this is for your mother, stay far far away from Android boxes with kodi. You'll lose the reliability that the mag has to offer, amoung many other features such as videos on demand and time shifting that is elegantly available on the mag.

That doesn't mean kodi won't work, it just means it's not the best for the technically challenged.

If you must have an android though, consider the super fays dreamlink t1. It runs Android, but also has the ability to connect to stalker servers.

Not all iptv providers are created equal either. The most reliable service out of all the services I have tried would be ipguys. Hands down.

Don't let resellers try to convince you that you need to pay alot either. I've seen resellers selling ipguys for over 20 usd a month, which other guys sell it for 11.

Keep that in mind, and trials are always good.

I don't think there will be any difference on stability of you use a mag box, Kodi or just VLC. The stability should come from the server.

I never had a mag box but depending on how tech savvy your mother is that might be the best solution for her.

Of course a computer with Kodi or an android box will offer much more than a mag box, but that might be a bit complicated for your mother in case she accidentally changes something by mistake. And your mom probably just want to watch tv and doesn't care what an android box can offer....
