Hi,
I have never used IPTV or Roku earlier and wondering what would be cheaper options to light tv watching! I am more into news and hardly watch sports. I am looking for option that provides mainly canadian channels for news and US entertainment at lowest overall cost of ownership. Please suggest.
Stay far away from the ROKU. I have many roku's here collecting dust. For TV, the roku sucks, and is nearly unusable. Your only options for TV would be maybe something like MachTV, etc. These have horrible playback quality and buffering issues. Basically, just imagine all the walmart shoppers trying to connect to the same IPTV servers. I'd rather connect to a mag server than a shared walmart server!
A good rule of thumb: If you can buy the box in a retail store (best buy, walmart etc), you're going to be very disappointed.
If there are legitmate services you want to pay for, like HULU and NETFLIX, MLB TV, HBO Go and stuff like that, and it's all available within your region, then the roku is ok. Big $$$ to subscribe to services like this.
Mainstream boxes are here to make money, not SAVE you yours
If you're looking for "grey market", cost efficient, or a similar experience to a cable company like set top box, you don't want to touch the ROKU.
The roku in like a competitor to an Apple TV. Overpriced and VERY restrictive.
