MAG 254 set up at my house for a friend. I've now sent it to him and it wont connect to the internet. Link status down and no ip address. Help me!

Title says it all really. I purchased a MAG 254 and a 1 yr sub with the intention of sending a friend a "ready to go" box as he's not particularly tech savvy.

Had it all set up and working fine at my house for a few days before boxing it back up and sending to him. He's hooked it all up but can't get it to connect to his wifi. I've tried talking him through and can't think of anything obvious we're missing.

I've gone into Network, Wifi, Auto and chosen his SSID from the list, then entered his password and saved. I've tried rebooting the device at this point and not rebooting and the result is the same - no internet connection.

In the network info page the link status is down and the ip address is blank.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Try it with a cable then. He might just not have enough signal for wifi.

I experienced this as well and can comfirm that setting to a static ip fixed the issue

I've noticed the mag254 cannot grab an IP from certain routers/modems. Must be an issue with the DHCP. If you manually assign an IP, it should work. See: http://iptvtalk.org/showthread.php?1062-MAG-254-Solved-issue-quot-Out-of-the-box-MAG-254-and-internet-is-not-working-quot- !

I took mine to my parents over Xmas and had a simila problem where it wouldn't get an IP address. They had a sky (uk) WiFi extension box that I just switched off and back on every time I plugged the ethernet in, seemed to fix things
