So my friend got Avov OnlineTV and he paid $150 for the box and $100 a year for television channels.
When he told me what it was I figure it was just Android running something like Kodi or XBMC. Looking into it, that's pretty much what it is but I'm not sure what the subscription is for.
I haven't used XBMC in a while, are TV Channels usually included or is it an Addon and the fee is justified?

You don't need a sub for reliable Live TV. Mobdro and Solid Streamz apps both provide all the Live TV you need for free, and they are more stable than most paid subs.
I went into store to buy one and they tried selling me a 10/mth subscription. Couldn't figure out why, still don't know why i would need one.
if he got the avov4k, hes got a stalker based box. this means he can use whatever servers the mag works with.
It is NOT a kodi box.
Stalker servers (true iptv) cost as others mentioned 15 a month. If he paid 100 for life, he's getting screwed over.
Also, I sell avov boxes for 125 CAD, so if he paid 150 he overpaid...
OP, you need to find out if he's using kodi for the free tv, or if they subscribed his box to a paid service.
It looks like your friend got taken pretty good. Avoid that service.
If you want an avov, it's a great box. Get it unloaded for 100-125 CAD and then pick a server of your choosing. You'll be MUCH better off than your friend!
Hard to tell, having looked on their website they are quite secretive over what they actually have to offer. There is usually always a subscription involved with live TV streaming, because of the server capacity it involves to bring that service to a customer. If he cannot watch live TV on his bought product/service than he basically got ripped off.
