IPTV on a PC

by AKtwenty7

Hi guys, I haven't bought an IPTV dedicated box yet but are there any sort of IPTV-focused OSs out there that I could install on an old desktop? I have in the past installed Kodi on old desktops so if I could somehow install a reputable stb emulator on my pc, hopefully I can save on not having to spend money on a new MAG box. Booting directly to an stb emulator (skipping boot to Windows/Linux) would be preferable

What do you guys think?

Not sure if it works, but I found this.

Perfect Player on Windows works well. Plug in your stream + EPG and you're off.

I would install Kodi and make it launch at boot. And also make ot open the Kodi tv guide on start of Kodi.

In my opinion a Mag is not necessary unless you are not comfortable using PVR IPTV Simple Client.

Some people also likes Perfect Player, but I find it too slow

I've recently started using Progdvb which, after sorted out the video codecs and EPG, is by far the best real tv experience I've come across. It comes with ProgTV and that looks really good, however, my keyboards broken so I can't do anything inside it other than raise or lower the volume!

Isn't there an Android X86 Os you can install on PC, and then run STB Emu

Also you can install LibreElec, its a Kodi only OS for PC. its so much better then running Kodi on top of Windows.

The issues you are going to run into will likely end up convincing you to get a box. I have a htpc and install home theatres for a living and can straight up tell you that any solution you may try such as emulators and Kodi will let you down.

Even if you get Kodi to work it's likely the epg won't work on most Linux destros. Epg half works on windows.

But keep in mind if you use Kodi you won't get access to all the on demand videos and tv show collections.

The easiest way to do what you want to do will be through your normal web browser and sign up with something like Ntx or torula or other.

You won't get a true cable tv alternative out of Kodi on emulators. Those are only available on STB... Which or course is why pretty much every thread ends up the same way.
