Curious on average monthly data consuption.

Hey All,

I am thinking of switch over to IPTV and was wondering on average how much data would this require? We have 2 devices which will require it, average usage. I have kodi which I stream movies and tv shows and never had an issue, our data cap is 300gb at 25mbps speeds.

Most services are 3-4 megabits max, so x2 that's let's say 8mbits, or for simplicity sake, 1 MEGABYTE. So if you run that for 24-7, you're looking at 60 MB a minute 3.6 gigs per hour, or 86.4 gigs a day, running BOTH boxes continuously. With a paltry 300 gig cap, you'll easily hit that in 83 hours of TV watching, again with both boxes running.

What this means is you're severely limited. You essentially have 166 hours, give or take, to spread between both boxes (yes I did math here). 5 hours a day on one box is already 155 hours on a 31 day month, unless your billing cycles are equal, then it's probably 30 days. How easy is it to do 5 hours a day on 1 box? Pretty easy if you toss in binge watching during the weekend with sports and "i'm bored let's watch tv" which could easily be 10-12 hours of tv for each saturday and sunday.

But since you haven't told us what your viewing habits are, this could all be wrong.

It is pretty much the same if i would ask you how much will my car take fuel for a monthly average :P
It depends on the quality of the streams, how much do you watch etc. You can google bandwidth calculators for some kind of estimate.

with 300gb you'll be fine.

for iptv use most people stay well beyond that.

I usually say, for most people, 100gb is fine (for one box) with fairly heavy usage

But again for accurate numbers you need to know how many hours each box will be on a day.
