IPTV provider

by Dolme

Hello there!

I am a newbie in the topic, and i don't know how things are going, so i turned to you guys, maybe you could help me.

I live in Hungary, and we have IPTV. We have a set-top box, but it's from the service provider, and we don't like it. We have to pay for it every month, and they don't let us buy it, so our bills will be higher. The question is, if I buy a set-top box from any online merchant, can we watch the programs with it? Or it's only working with the provider's set-top box? Are there any TV-s which has a built in set-top box, working with IPTV? Smart TV-s need a box too, don't they?

Notice: I don't really have any knowledge about these.

Thanks: Daniel

Smart TVs don't need a box. There is an app called SmartIPTV, and few other apps as well, that can be used but not all service providers support this. If they do support it so that you don't need a set-top box, then they will provide a link that you can enter into the app to receive all the channels they are offering.

I am not sure about this but I think there can be some buffering issues or picture/audio issues using the app instead of a set-top box. Don't quote me on this though.

Hello Daniel, which device are you using at the moment? Your device should work with any online service provider. If you are using Samsung or LG Smart TV you could use http://www.siptv.eu then you dont need a box.

If you want more details you could add me on skype or simply pm me here, so I could help you understanding the whole stuff and provide you a day with an trial account for testing purposes.

If you want to go 3rd party IPTV, then you will need either a MAG254 box which is a dedicated 3rd party IPTV box. Go to informir.eu for more info on them, you can also buy a Dreamlink T1 or any KODI capable box and side load IPTV through an emulator. I have the MAG254 and it is a great box.

Smart tv's suck, but you can get by if you really wanted.

You'll miss out on a lot of features though that you would normally get I think though. I don't have a smart tv hooked up for iptv myself, but I dont think youll get all the time shifting and videos on demand and stuff. How are the epgs on these smart tvs?
