Hey all, I was wondering which Mag device would be best to go with (Mag 256 is latest one I think), and if it's really needed if I have smart TV (I have Sony XD80) .
And I am planning to use IPTv on my Android TV mainly, can you also share which app (free or paid) you use to watch it directly from TV?

I use the tried and true Mag 254, but have the W2 version which has the intergrated AC WiFi antenna. Worth it for the extra cost. No worries about internet ever being the issue. Cheers!

Do not get a mag 256 unless you have tried, and know what provider you are going with.
The 256 is a downgrade over the 254 as very few providers support it.
If you get a 254 there are about 16 different servers that Ive used. If you use the 256, I've heard of about 4 that are confirmed worked.
That said, some of those 4 aren't premium ones and service quality may not be what you'd expect out of a dedicated set top box.
Check the stickies over at /r/iptvgta for my video reviews. I test most of the popular boxes that support stalker servers.
Right now I'd keep an eye on the new avov because it supports both stalker middleware as well as the new upcoming Nova middleware.
if the provider of the iptv you want to use uses catchup tv then you will need a mag or dreamlink box avov and android based with kodi wont support it as far as i know. i also have a sony android tv but still use the mag 250 with wifi adapter. infornir who make the mag have a stalkertv app that if the provider supports it you can use it without a mag box. its on the playstore and can be sideloaded onto the sony tv it supports the catchup tv service.

I paid around £150 around 2 years ago. It still works as good as it did the first day and if needed I can do dozens of things that I couldn't do with an Android or Mag box.
I've got a mag 256 but I tend to use my Nvidia Shield the most. Can't stand the layout on the mag and everything is so damn smooth on the Shield running kodi with simple TV client or occasionally Smart IPTV app which is also OK. My wife on the other hand prefer Smart iptv app on our Samsung smart tv
