MAG 254 vs STB EMU

by zaptor99

I'm currently testing iptvsubs, ipguys and voodoo on my MAG254W2 box. They work fine. I wanted to test the services on STB emu as well. So, I copied the mac address from the MAG to the stb emu, entered the corresponding portal and chose the stb model. I disconnected the MAG box to avoid any conflict. But when I restart the stb emu, I get "your stb is blocked". This happens with all 3 services above, and using android phone and nvidia sheild.

I have used stb emu before with a 1 day trial of iptvsubs and I know it worked.

Should I be able to do this, or does the service provider know I switched boxes?

I usually copy over the serial number and device id in the profile.

I moved from FireTV to Firestick without issue.

Some have extra protections on and you need to connect from your mag while sniffing for the deviceid and deviceid2 values. Then out them into the emu.

@patriot1889 is on the right track with device IDs. The problem is that it's too much trouble to "sniff" that information from a MAG box, in my experience. I emailed my providers with a simple explanation, and asked them to reset my MAC. You may even decide to change MAC addresses to avoid getting locked out again if you fire up the MAG254. If you do eventually settle on a single portal provider, I would suggest getting a re-seller account so you can do this kind of thing for yourself, and save some money in the long-run.

I frequently use IPTVsubs on multiple devices.

Once I use it on the device and it works properly, I don't have any trouble. But let's just say I re install stb emu, I get the same error as you are getting.

Here's the wierd part, usually it will work on the other devices that I didn't alter. But if you wait long enough, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 10 hours, all a sudden it will work on all the devices now untill you alter something again and your back to scratching your head lol.

No idea what causes this, but I always copy over my device id , and Mac id. Sometimes the error pops up, sometimes its fine. And I assume your having the same issue. Give it a day and try again. Honestly lol.

Ask your reseller to reset the Mac

Thanks for the feedback guys. This device id sniffing is complicated for my taste :) The 3 services still work on the MAG254, I was not locked by the providers, but just can't get them to work on STB EMU after copying the MAX and serial #. Probably will just buy a 1 month for the STB EMU and try it that way.

i vote for Mag 254! :-)

This is super weird. I've switched over devices to emulators lots of times with just matching Macs.

I've never done any sniffing you guys speak of.

I've even gone as far as using different iptv apps on thr same box with duplicate Macs no problems?

I troubleshoot(ed)/troubleshot? with my reseller and he can't figure it out either. Maybe because my box is 254W2 and my MAC is specific to that, and I can't choose that box on the STB EMU. I tried 250 and 254.
