I have a MAG254, and my picture is smooshed into a 4:3 but when I look at the guide and GUI it's at it's proper 16:9... Does anyone know why this is happening?

There was an firmware update to address this last week. Perhaps your provider hasn't pushed it out yet.
The box is just displaying it wrong. If you press the bottom left button on the remote using stretch mode puts that channel back into 16 9.
The mag will save this channel info next time you visit it.
A bit annoying, but after a bit of time watching tv all your stations you frequently watch will be fixed
