What sort of set top box is best for the money, to work with various IPTV providers?

I'm thinking in the roughly $50 to $100 or maybe a bit more range.

It looks like some of the S912 boxs with Android 6 such as this one might be the way.

Android 6.0 TV Box S912 Octa-core Cortex 2GB/16GB/2.4GHz/5.0GHz Dual-band WIFI Bluetooth 4.0/LAN 1000M

A lot of the stuff I see recommended various places is older and slower.

If you were to buy one today for $50 to $100 plus, which way would you go?

Dreamlink T1 if you are going to use a stalker based service.

Nvidia ShieldTV if you are going to use a non-stalker based service.

Dreamlink T1 all day long....

If you're going to get a cheap ass box, go to Freaktab and see what ones have custom firmwares.

Once you get past all the sponsored recommendations (which includes pretty much most of what you'll find on youtube, or the randomly googled "best of 2017" lists), most of the technical and in-depth feedback I've seen on those S912 chip boxes writes them off as market gimmick trash. The better paper specs on the surface being the trap, as some S905 still come with much better support.

For under $100 I'd go with a Dreamlink T1 for a pure IPTV setup, or a Xiaomi Mi Box ($70 at walmart) if you spend a lot of time on Kodi and/or go the non-stalker based route.

I would recommend Dreamlink T1 as well.

Forget the specs. Get that shit out of your head. OS Version doesn't matter.

Also check out the stb video reviews in the sticky at /r/iptvgta that thread was made to specifically answer questions like yours. Dreamlink t1 video review with ipguys is covered.
