Why I switched from the NVIDIA shield to T1 dreamlink and have no regrets whatsoever.

by sneaky1922

When i first learned about IPTV i thought it was hogwash, and that the cable companies wouldnt let people do something like this without serious repercussions. I was proved wrong though.

I started out with what I had, an Apple TV 4. I sideloaded kodi on it, and tried my first iptv provider, DexterTV. And i was amazed i was getting tv that looked better than vue. i was very curious about this. However on the Apple TV you have serious buffering issues and it doesnt play well with kodi. So i quickly looked for another box option.

Enter the NVIDIA shield TV pro. I went all out and got the Pro, and the tv remote and everything. And it was night and day from the apple tv. SO fast. didnt buffer or pixelate near as much, still on occasion though. I was hard wired, and everyone told me that i must be having issues due to my streaming provider ( i have 80mb internet so that was ruled out too) So that i when i started my hiatus of providers. You name it i tried it. Ace, ipguys, gears tv, dexter tv, nero, jinx, vader streams, torula, iptv subs, just off the top of my head those are the ones i can think of. And i was just never happy with the buffering and pixelation. It happened alot, and i am a bitch about quality. So i kept looking for what i could do. I did the echo wizard nvidia shield buffering thing, had all the clear cache and stuff set up. I knew my shit. I tried it. And i always still had some pixelation and buffering.

Enter T1 dreamlink. I had heard of it forever thanks to acaoacao and stokedcrf. They were always ranting about it. But i always told myself theres not way that cheap box could be better than my all powerful godlike shield. Its just them trying to strum up stalker service. But then a week ago i took the plunge.

EVERYONE WHO HAS ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN T1 OR MAG254 DOESNT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MISSING. Its night and day man. Channels load in half the time. Pixelation? nonexistent. Buffering? havent seen it once. The best way i can describe the difference between a stalker service and a kodi or web based one is one word. Color Saturation. kodi based services have horrible matte color saturation that just takes away all vibrancy of the product. And honestly i noticed a little before, but after getting the t1, i was like holy shit. The colors are infinitely more vibrant. Colors are not matted or muted, they are vibrant and full, very cable like. And that to me is the key difference. And its what you dont get with kodi. or with stb emulator. you just dont. and if picture quality is important to you, then admit your mistake and get the t1 or mag254. youll thank me.

I hope this helps some people. I really do. Happy to answer any questions. I just know how hard it can be to think ill of your android based device or fire tv, but im telling ya, for iptv? this is what works best. I didnt believe it. But now i do.

Just to clear up it up. I just ordered a Dreamlink T1 today. I am excited though. All credit goes to /u/stokedcrf While you are at it.. give him a upvote. He likes upvotes.

All kidding aside. Thanks for the review and confirmation for buying dedicated IPTV hardware.

Or folks you could get the latest MAG 256W2 like I have done, it supports 802.11ac wifi @ 600mbps, whilst the Dreamlink T1 is still stuck in the dark ages with 802.11n. Yes we all know that a wired internet connection is better but not everyone can or wants to have ugly 20m ethernet cables strewn all over their floors.

It's funny that a year ago when I started looking into Kodi, all I heard was "stay away from cheap chinese android boxes" and "if you want to run Kodi or IPTV on an Android box, you can't settle for less than the Nvidia Shield".

Since then, I've heard of nothing but issues like yours with the shield. I have 2 cheap chinese android boxes, and I have 0 issues. None! Zilch! The only issues I have ever had was with providers. I'm now running Smoothstreams, IPGuys and Vader, all running perfectly.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I feel the need to interject when these days when anyone is recommending devices for IPTV or Kodi. There is way too much misinformation out there.

woollzz

I have an expensive shield and this breaks my heart lol. So IPTV is worse, but what about on demand TV and movies? (Exodus, etc)

I love this post. :) I like hearing how excited people get when they find something that works good for them.

Sometimes I feel funny getting so hyped over over a box, and you can probably tell in my videos when I really like something. Often I feel like Im trying to convince people why what they have isn't ideal. It's sorta a fine line because nobody wants to hear that the 200 or 300 dollars they dished out wasn't well spent.

The popularity of the mag has always been there, but it's only recently we are starting to see cheaper Android boxes step up to the plate and challenge even the most expensive of boxes.

I've been wanting a Sheild for a long time, and will probably get the new one. But I realize the limitations (in this case iptv) and plan to use it for what it's made for (gaming).

I in no way am trying to push devices or piss people off, I just find that a proper set top box is the solution to many recurring questions and problems we see posted daily :)

Anyways, I'm super stoked you got one! Thanks so much for your update!

(Ps you guys make me chuckle about the up vote stuff! I don't really care about up votes but I think if someone can share something productive with the community it's the least we can do for them.)

Up voting is also a great way to filter the spam posts from the helpful ones :D

Thanks again guys, you guys rock!

I've got a MiBox with Elite Streams which has Thier own app (Player Core based) and it works flawless after I upgraded to an AC Router from Verizon FiOS. It has all the other apps + the TV app separately. Almost never buffers, channels load super quick and great, simple interface.

Was dreading the nvidia shield when I got it but it works really well with iptv I use Iptv pro with vlc I tried the majority of other iptv app however they were really slow and could not handle the FHD channels

I totally endorse what everyone here is saying. The T1 is the real deal for iptv. I use to use KOdi/Simple client/pvr stalker/stb emu. I had pixelation and jittery playback issues using stalker middleware. Now they do not exist.

manosteel9423

I concur wholeheartedly! Like I said in a previous thread, I recently went through the research aspect of finding the right box for IPTV. I am ridiculously thorough when I research a purchase...maybe because I'm cheap! Haha. Anyways, after a solid month of research, the T1 was the only way to go. It just doesn't have any real flaws. It has a perfect IPTV software, it does Kodi just as well as my old android box or my FireTV ever did. Love it.

Now, if a server could just find a way to completely populate their EPG, I would be perfectly happy with my setup!

blazin503

i have both and they make a great team.

teikiyo

It can be used for kodi too right?

amahmoud0129

well this sucks when i literally just ordered my nvideia shield like 20 min why didn't i read this :(

blazin503

remote is kind of janky but the Dreamlink experience is legit.

KeptSayingTryAnother

Thanks for this. Was thinking of getting a shield.

MrSighman

How have you found the vod? The aspect ratio is all out and fully puts me off it. Which is a shame.

Everything is stretched full screen. I've experienced this with ipguys and Flawless (fabiptv) so can only assume it's the box and not the provider of the iptv.

asjaro

Have you tried SPMC on the Shield instead of Kodi? SPMC has extra audio and video settings especially for Android devices. It's miles better than Kodi and addresses some of the problems that are mentioned.

tphan03

Since you tried all the IPTV services, which one did you end up going with? and which one do you think is best?

sneaky1922

Express is best on stalker, so t1 or mag. For kodi based, nothing beat DexterTV

That said I still stand by my post on what has the better experience. But do what works best for you!

unitedfuck

How does a box affect the quality of a stream? Shouldn't the output be the same on a laptop or on say, a fire stick?

adhitdhar

thanks for the writeup sneaky, question....what IPTV provider are you going with now? Are you US based? How is the sports package on what you ordered? Any links to share as to where I can also order from? I'm literally in the same boat as you. Just got my hands on a T1 and want to hit the ground running and not waste time. It's good to learn from those who have already walked the path!

YgroNocOen

Ordered T1... Thanks!

Redevil1987

what is the best IPTV service for dreamlink or Mag?
