VPN service fixed buffering issue on my Dreamlink T1

by kidk707

I recently cut the cord and got ATT 18Mb DSL service (Northern Cali) a few days ago and noticed a lot of buffering and stuttering on my T1. Double checked my network and setting and couldn't find a cause. I noticed the buffering was very consistent, like a timer. I read somewhere that internet providers are blocking IPTV so I signed up for PIA VPN since its on the T1 as an app. Started the PIA app, chose a location (Canada) then when I started the "Live TV" my buffering issue were gone. So if anyone has buffering issues maybe try a VPN, there are usually 1 month trials. I didn't try the free one as those have been known to be unreliable. I hope this helps someone. And thanks to everyone here for all the great information and resources.

wow, awesome info. I've always been against the use of vpns with iptv and I haven't seen any throttling by isps yet. Especially since every tv station you tune into comes from a different ip.

But, if it fixes your issues then you can't go wrong using it!

I still don't think it's related to throttling though ...

This is very accurate. Several ISP's are throttling video during high usage times. Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu are all direct competitors to the ISP's offerings. A VPN allows you to encrypt and bypass most throttling. Also make sure to use a separate DNS server and not your ISP's.
