What is the minimum recommend internet speed for IPTV?

by manufoy

I live in Australia on an ASDL 2+ Naked DSL connection. I currently get a line speed of about 20 megabits per second and a result of about 17mbps on speedtest.net to the closest server. There is currently plans for a fibre rollout to happen in my area (FTTN/FTTC), which should give me the ability to get higher speeds than what I currently have through VDSL2. The rollout is planned to be completed by the end of the year from what information I've been given from NBNco. An ISP I am currently looking at is offering a line speed of 25mbps for the same price as the current internet bill for a NBN VDSL2. But they also offer a speed their of up to 100mbps (if the infrastructure is even capable of delivering anything near that), for an additional twenty Australian dollarydoos a month (from $70 to $90). Do you think that would be work it when looking for an IPTV subscriptions? What is the minimum internet speed you'll recommend for IPTV?

With 20mbps your constraint is likely to be the quality of the connectivity that your ISP has with the rest of the world. Some Australian ISPs do not invest and as a result their customers see really bad buffering of IPTV. We have also seen bad buffering on ADSL but our service work perfectly on a fibre line from the same Australian ISP. As /u/acaoacao notes, take some trials to check. Message me if you would like to take a trial with Ace TV - r/AceTV

One of your issues will likely be server location. A lot of iptv services don't have servers that close to Australia with the closest often being USA or mainland Europe! Smoothstreams for sport (if I recall) had Hong Kong or Chinese servers for Asian and aus/nz folk which were better?

As others have said, get trials as ymvv and go for the best connection you can get/afford.

I've seen people say you only need about 3mbps or so but don't know how accurate that is. 20 should be more than enough. I have 75 and run 2-3 boxes off of that with zero issues.

20MB should be fine like /u/colin6 states.. but try as many trials as time allows you to do. Start looking at reviews here /r/iptvreviews

I have a 1.5mbps at my office and it will work with a few stalls.

I have two connections (in the UK though), 1 at 2.5mbs which does suffer from stuttering and doesn't really handle 1080p that well but still works for most stuff. Then 9mbs which handles everything. I would probably go for the 25mbs if I was you.

if you have just 1 box connected to the internet for IPTV. 5Mbit should be sufficient. but if you try to watch videos on your phone while watchign iptv. GoodLuck!

20 is good unless you are streaming 4K movies, then I think 50 would be a better idea

Artid420

got a friends live outside of the city with a 5mbps. and it buffing every 3-4 hour..

talentiptv

Min 2mbps but it can be slow too sometime

I'm in Australia also using Telstra Bigpond cable (100Mbit) but in reality I can get around 120Mbit downstream. I regularly download ISOs from various FTP servers and can max out my connection. Telstra is one of the better ISPs when it comes to connectivity.

However, I still get buffering on IPTV. So far I have tried FabIPTV and Epicstream. Some channels work OK, but others buffer so much they are almost unwatchable.

If you can run Netflix HD you can run any IPTV. People who claim 20+ are probably on 15 things at once or lying.

You can probably get away with 5. I have tested Mag 254 on 7 and it worked amazingly.
