I am a reseller for Epicstream and from experience I can say most customers LOVE dreamlink T1. At the same time, my customer base is probably evenly split between MAG and Dreamlink, although almost 70% of new signups are with Dreamlink over MAG.

The tide is moving towards Dreamlink in a big way.

Mag 256 all the way. If you can't get that use the T1.Mag 254 is capable but the ghetto version of both.

I've never used a Mag, and I love my T1, but from what I can tell from reading the comments on several posts like this is that its all personal preference. The two boxes work differently. They both seem to do a great job at what they are designed to do and I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

That said, on the Mags, I've read a few times that the 254 is far more popular than the 256. I've also read that some people find the 256 a bit glitchy and maybe that's why. But I have no experience with either one, so that take that with a grain of salt.

Wait a few weeks, I am getting a few boxes to do an in depth test.

I have both a Mag 254 and a T1. I would honestly go with whatever you can get cheaper or wait for the new Dreamlink T1 plus. They both work great. Keep in mind Mag 254 doesn't have native wifi, I'm not sure if the 256 does so you need an adapter.

The extra ram is not beneficial on the 256, but it would make navigating menus in the inner portal seem a bit faster. But that could also be a placebo effect.

The 254 is much more common, and most customers prefer it to the 256. The 254 is better in almost all areas.

In the past, the 256 wasn't even supported by many of the stalker providers. This has slowly started to change. You'll find a bit more server support now, but if you aren't familiar with the boxes, you're definitely going to want to go with the one that is most popular with the most support, and in this case it is the 254.

The mag is by far the best for iptv, and generally most people like that more than the dreamlink.

But the dreamlink is the best option for a cable company like epg with the bonus of being able to use things such as netflix and kodi 16.

The new dreamlink t1 plus also runs the same OS, so waiting for that still won't get you kodi 17.

If you already have a nice kodi setup at home, go for the mag (even though I did the opposite).

In my case, I have a huge home theatre setup that is fully networked, and my kodi boxes can load up the library from the htpc in the basement (a server basically). So for me I see value in have a kodi box.

But for TV, stick with the 254. If you get the 256 you may quickly regret it.

My vote for tv goes to the 254, then the t1, and the 256 I wouldn't even consider

With the latest firmware (Feb 2017) the MAG 256 is fairly solid now and is far better than the 254 for raw processing power. The 256 had bugs galore when it was first released but these have largely been ironed out now.

I have the MAG 256W2 (has 802.11ac wifi built-in) and it works a treat with Necro IPTV. If your iptv provider doesn't use Stalker v5 or above then they're living in the dark ages and you need to bin them :)

Thank you to everyone for your insight, I really appreciate it. I really don't think i'll need the PVR ability of the T1+ so i'm really back to where I started in trying to decide between the T1 and the 254. lol But, I have managed to eliminate the 256, so everyone has been very helpful. I may actually just get one of each (T1 and 254) at some point.
