Is iptv legal?

by KanyeKwest

I have been seeing a lot of stuff about crackdowns for kodi users concerning pirated content and the subject of iptv came up. Aside from the torrent freak and tv add-ons articles which are obviously self serving I also saw a story done on the news here in the u.s. I use paid iptv service and I know that tv providers have to pay licensing fees to broadcast channels and I'm also quite sure that most small iptv sellers can't possibly afford those fees. So is iptv piracy or does it fall into a different category and am I safe using it?

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

It is as legal as the content you find in Kodi.

We pay for a subscription to content provided by a IPTV provider. Some licenses their feeds from reputable sources... some do not.

We cannot confirm where a certain IPTV providers feeds are coming from.

All of those Kodi user crackdown stories are complete bollocks. How is anyone able to see you streaming a video? It's not p2p

If you're ever scared, just use a good VPN.

Mostly not. How else would you pay a fraction of the official provider fees? =) But ofc iptv is also provided by official channels and it is legal but costs 5x.

IPTV piracy is illegal. Just like any form of piracy. The only difference being that you are probably less likely to be caught using an IPTV service compared to the chances of you being caught torrenting, for example. But not all IPTV services are a method of illegal piracy, for example, in Australia there's an IPTV service called Fetch TV, which is entirely legal, as all content on their service is licensed.

I would tell you it depend.

If some channels are FTA and someone take those channels and restream then i dknt think its illegal.

Some part of the earth they give free channels through satellite like the middle east.

But i see some provider they stream what they get from cable specially in usa and thats illegal.

I got most of the news channels which i restream from youtube.

I try to offer iptv as clean as I can

Depends where the feeds are coming from. Some iptv like fibetv or companies like vmedia and such are not illegal. But you pay for them

If you're paying like 10 or 15 bucks, then likely it's pirated content.

In Canada, the shakedowns are real. The problem stems from larger resellers such as tecfront who just sell iptv all willy nilly :)

www.ntv.mx is legal and trust iptv provider with big sales offices all around world.

Of course they're illegal as shit, you really think Sky are going to licence out all their sports, movies etc. channels for a tiny fraction of the price? However the sites are publicly and clearly available and the service is sold as a something legit after a quick google search. So as far as I'm concerned they're cough "legal". I mean, there isn't even a way to tell the legal ones from the illegal ones. You can also pretend you never saw the illegal channels. If you go to a shop in town you have a reasonable expectation to assume that you're not buying stolen goods. Same with the internet, it makes sense as a defence. Just don't leave a thread like this up on your computer when they are breaking down the door. :P

If they really wanted to shut down IPTV down very badly they could do it. I suggest you don't go bragging everywhere about how you get all these channels for so cheap because if people kept it to themselves, it would last longer. Too many people doing it is what happened with entering keys, it's now happening with card-sharing as they're all getting shut down.... the whole thing gets too big and everyone is getting it and they get it shut down. Hopefully it doesn't happen IPTV any time soon but I doubt it's going to last forever.

The feds, cops, whatever dont go after the person streaming.... this crackdown on boxes is those guys selling "Loaded Boxes" etc.

and tbh I think they shouldn't sell the loaded boxes ..... they are ripping people off for shit that we all know is free ...... go buy a box from a legal vendor and youtube how to add content... simple as that

Most IPTV providers that aren't huge companies like set TV or NTV.mx are not in the USA or UK and have different laws then sling TV or DirecTV now has. It's NOT illegal for them to rebroadcast like it would be for the for the commercial IPTV providers.. and it's not illegal for me or you to pay $20 bucks a month to privately view a streaming url
