Tvheadend Remote Access

by shroudsofclouds

Hi guys,

Hopefully I'm asking this in the right subreddit.

I'm currently using Tvheadend 4.1 as a server for my iptv subscription and kodi pvr as the front end. This has improved my viewing experience ten fold. I find the streams more stable, channel switching faster and quality better.

I'm looking at accessing the tvheadend server remotely. Would I be on the right track by thinking an openvpn setup would be the easier way of doing this? Or is there a simpler way. I'm not overly fussed about the security aspect of this.

Also, my subscription only allows one stream at a time and is IP/network locked. If I am viewing through a tvheadend client remotely would my iptv provider only see the servers IP or would they also be able to see the client address?

Thanks

I would go with the OpenVPN approach.

The provider would see your server IP..they would not see your clients

Depends on your internet speed. I have run it on a Pi2 and it ran fine and kept up with my cable modem.

For your next router/firewall try to get one that supports it directly (Or works with Tomato/OpenWrt)
