Could somebody make an open source Linux operating system for IPTV stalker?

by aguerrrroooooooooooo

Could this ever be done and compete with a mag box, dreamlink box or an avov box? The hardware as we know is not particularly special on these boxes; to the point where a raspberry pi 3 could likely compete with a mag 254 when it comes to firepower.
However the software is designed to work hand in hand with stalker middleware, which makes me wonder; could an open source, Linux based operating system, specifically designed to work with IPTV stalker middleware ever happen? It would help encourage growth of the IPTV market as buying a new box just for IPTV is off putting for some.
A raspberry pi (or a htpc) running this type of OS would be amazing if you ask me; thoughts?

I agree too. Just getting into iptv and that's the first thing I did was look for a Linux distro or open source software. Disappointed in my results. Thought about buying a MAG or Dreamlink, but I am underwhelmed with the hardware specs and software interface. I don't want to use some 2000's software interface. I can't find anything I like. To give my cable company some credit at least their box's interface looks nice and is easy to use.

Mag interface is nice and easy to use, what do you want ?

This has been asked before actually and is a valid argument, but in my opinion it's already been done.

Informir already released their mobile app StalkerTV and thats an official release from the same company that makes the mag. Any designing of new software is just wasted effort. Additionally, any hardware you'd buy to run this open source software would end up costing you more than a brand new mag in most cases anyways, especially by the time you buy a remote and a infra red receiver if you don't have one sitting around anyways.

I suppose most people already have wireless keyboards and mouse they can use to keep costs down, but at this point it's just not worth it.

The market is flooded with iptv programs as it is, we don't really need anymore.

The mag is so rock solid, and can be picked up for like 50 bucks used for people on a budget. People want seamless integration, and you can't get that much cheaper than a mag really.

I would drop >$100 on a box/ $30-40 on a software, that does EVERYTHING I want. but it doesn't exist...
