I am new to the community and am interested in getting IPTV along with purchasing the Dreamlink T1 Plus. But first, I have some questions:
-
For safety purposes, I will be using a VPN. However, how do we actually set the VPN up? Do we sign up for any VPN available I can find on Google (any recommendations for Canada?) or does the pre-installed one inside the Dreamlink T1 Plus be sufficient (I believe it is called "Cloud VPN")? I don't mind paying a few bucks per month as I've heard free ones may have issues.
-
Does the VPN always automatically be activated everytime I turn the unit on and off? Or do I have to turn it on each and everytime I use the device? What happens if the pre-installed VPN app inside of the Dreamlink T1 crashes? Will the Dreamlink automatically use my regular wifi connection, leaving my actual IP address exposed to the provider's server?

There are so many providers to choose from. For Canadian users, what provider do you recommend? Reliability, speed, no buffer, and visual clarity are the most important. I am keen on HD channels especially sports. I would prefer if it came with a trial but paying with bitcoins only is a must.
Thanks in advance.
Buy your own, don't trust what come pre-installed with the box... I don't even think that this "Cloud VPN" thing is an actual VPN, to be fair... NordVPN is very good but don't take my word for it, do your own research ( https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-section/ and also https://privacytoolsio.github.io/privacytools.io/#vpn )
As for the setup, you could buy an additional router that supports VPN configurations (like the cheap EdgeRouterX), plug your IPTV box to it and the router to your Internet modem... All traffic coming in/out the box will be encrypted and your IP will be hidden from your IPTV provider.
If you use a router that has a VPN set up on it, you don't have to worry about that: leave the router running all the time and you'll always be protected . As for the WiFi thing, it's simple: don't use WiFi, always use Ethernet. WiFi can be messy/unreliable so a solid Ethernet wire is much better.
Not really into the CAN market but I keep hearing about IPGUYS... Maybe /u/stokedcrf over at /r/IPTVGTA will be able to advise you better!
Enjoy!
