Reseller here, Mag254/256 HDMI-CEC Issues - causing many boxes to switch off and not be able to switch on afterwards without physically unplugging and restarting the box.

by r3dn0ze

I am a local supplier of MAG devices. I have seen hundreds or good devices, however, a recent firmware update (maybe in the last 6 Months or so) has been giving me issues with many 254/256 devices I sell. All would be working well until you switch off your TV. HDMI-CEC feature included in the update would then switch off the device as well, (apparently it's a default feature now?). The issue is that when you switch on the device afterwards, it would just not boot via its own remote, only a hard reset will make it work again. I have disabled 'HDMI EVENT REACTION' in the settings but to no avail. I have also tried changing clients' HDMI ports as maybe ARC-enaed ports were an issue, but that was not the issue.

Would appreciate your help 😊

That is the reason I abandoned my box after 2 months. Just too much of a pain in the ass to continue. After rebooting, it would sometimes take 3 or 4 tries to connect changing the internal ip address.

It became too much like work and it sits on the pile of obsolete hardware in my basement.

Would like to know if there is a simple fix though!!

I had the same problems over here and they drove me mad! I do have quite a simple fix (as the problems aren't solved for me with the latest firmware update) But just fitting a simple and cheap hdmi splitter in between blocks the CEC commands and my problem is solved! Hopefully someone can use the info!
