I've been reading a lot about different box types, and I'm a bit confused.
What's the difference between a "set top box" that only does IPTV and an android box that has STB emu and Kodi?
Is the "T1" a set top box or an android box?

An android box is a set top box. The term set top box is just a box that you connect to your "tv set" that provides you with tv. This could a a satellite receiver, cable box, or iptv box.
Operating system is irrelevant.
Normally, set top boxes are favoured more the closer they come to a legit cable subscription, where kodi works with plugins/add-ons etc.
Many providers give you the option of using either. Just personal preference.
Where reliability is a concern, most go for the mag which runs Linux, for a more modern epg people choose dreamlink t1, and for pvr functionality the t1 plus.
Also, vod with some servers is only available via specific stb. Unless thr provider has its own kodi add on (they don't all have this... If they do you'll know because they will advertise it).
If they don't advertise it, you'll need something like a mag or dreamlink to access it. This goes for catchup/timeshifting as well.
Didn't you ask this a few days ago?
Both but it runs a very ancient version of android.
I think it's pretty self explanatory. One is meant for running only IPTV eg Mag . Android boxes run Android and are more versatile. Android boxes can be official Android tv devices or those that run the AOSP stuff which are those Chinese boxes or they can be that run Android forks like the Amazon fire TV or stick.
