Is VPN needed for iptv for privacy or is it overkill?

Not doing any torrenting etc, just iptv via a provider , is vpn needed ?

I think it's personal preference, and partially depends if your isp is throttling. If you're not playing around with kodi add-ons, I don't really think it's needed.

I have a vpn but choose not to use it as it sorta degrades my iptv service.

I think if you're involved with restreaming though or providing feeds, it's a necessity.

Just my opinion though, I don't think there is any right answer.

If you think of a iptv service, Every channel comes in from a different IP address and different port.

You got data coming from thousands of ips anyways, I can't imagine most providers making this an issue.

would highly suggest using it when:

  1. streaming from online websites
  2. torrenting
  3. using iptv providers

I use bulletVPN and have no issues with connectivity and speed.

Managed to get a spare Asus 56u router on a custom firmware that supports openvpn client.

Signed up to PIA and it works well.

I also managed to get pia app installed on Amazon fire tv and shield.

You need a USB mouse for initial setup and can have pia startup at boot up. You can also tell the app what programs you don't want to go through the vpn too which is pretty good.

It's not generally needed, most people are fine without it - but it does no harm and could potentially make you a harder target to chase.

I use one all the time for general privacy, but if you do anything dodgy then there's something to be said for not being the slowest Gazelle when the lions come calling. If it's easier for copyright lawyers to go after 1000 other people than you, you probably aren't going to be top of the list

Im also looking into this..

Guys, wouldn't the Video On Demand that you can get from IPTV providers trigger a letter from your isp? I mean you wouldn't know if the stream is a direct torrent until it's too late.

If you're using a VPN that works well, please tell us which one.

I would definitely use one just to err on the side of caution. But the problem for me is the iptv provider I use doesnt really like VPN users and I suspect most are like that. FabIPTV says they allow VPN on a case by case basis so I just hope I never have to deal with that( I wont know until I have to restart my VPN on a new server) or else I'll have to go back to PS Vue.
