Emby opinions?

Ok so I've been a Kodi/XBMC user for over 10 years from the original Xbox days. Running on a FireTV and using a Synology to stream all my videos, I am fairly happy. I hardly ever watch anything on mobile, nor do I use consoles or whatever.

Now, recently I started using an IPTV provider and looovve what they offer. M3U playlist for all their channels, VOD and good (enough) EPG. Getting that into Kodi also works fine through either the Simple or iVue guide. Personally I've been using a combination of 3 things (convoluted I know):

  1. Their Kodi addon to access the VOD content
  2. Perfect Player to access the Live IPTV content
  3. STBEmu to access the Catch up through the EPG guide

Although the above is likely not ideal, it still works. But what I miss is the ability to easily record content so I can watch shows at my convenience without relying on whether it's part of their catch-up.

So I've been exploring Myth, TVHeadEnd and Emby to do the automated recording of shows. I can't get Myth working on my Synology, TVHeadEnd was a mess (authentication issues, EPG problems and more importantly it fails to retrieve the IPTV channels (blocked?)).

Long story, but this brings me to Emby. It works in terms of IPTV and EPG. But how good is the Premiere stuff considering my use case? All I really care about is Series recording. How well does that work and how do I best pull that into Kodi?

Thanks in advance!

well it will record and if you have it setup to auto add to your library, (auto organize) which you should, you will have nothing to worry about.

Premiere is mainly for being able to stream to other devices. At least that is what I have it for. Best bet is to ask on the official forums.

Can I just ask if your EPG works OK? I'm with FAB but my EPG doesn't populate?

Also, could something like this run on a Shield so I could record without the PC being on?

Since i just got done setting this up thought i'd comment
Emby live tv sources:
Antenna through two hdhomerun HDHR3-US
IPTV through M3U entry x2 for now

I've paired down the M3u file to what I actually wanted. There was so much in there you could get lost. I also do a modifed xml entry that pulls the guide data from shedulesdirect instead of my iptv provider so i get all the goodies like 14 days out, icons and pics for everything
It is nice have the OTA channels as a base. You get all your high quality network hd channels and it frees up the iptv for other stuff. Iptv is working really well for me and this particular provider that rhymes with Thrace allows you to pay for multiple connections up to 6 total so you can have a 6 tuner dvr if you need it. Some hd channels have some blocking and some look great. I'll experiment around with a few more providers to see what else is out there.
After recordings run, they go through scan/commercial cut/ffmpeg transcoding and get added to local library. Plex also uses this library as well. I have premiere so it works just like any other tuner so far. Each additional tuner gets the same m3u entry and added to the guide data. We'll see if i get any failed recordings but live tv seems to be working great with my own testing
