Hello! Was looking at getting a Plus, but... are these glorified Android boxes with the only difference being it comes with a custom app for IPTV? Or, am I missing a killer feature that sets it apart from say a Shield? Thanks!

You're pretty much spot on. The app's really good though.
Exactly. The DOL app is an awesome IPTV software that is only available on the Dreamlink. Other than that its an android box running a very old version of android. If you are buying it to be an IPTV box only, its probably the best box currently available in my opinion. If you are buying it to multitask as an android box you will be disappointed.
As others have said, the dreamlink t1 is just a VERY good iptv box, that just happens to run android instead of linux like the mag.
That said though, the plus is very different than the normal dreamlink. While the interface is similar, the T1 plus is a PVR and can record (as long as you plug in an external usb stick or external hard drive).
The dreamlink aims to give you a "cable company like experience", which is very different then you'd get with a shield.
A shield is an enthusiast android device, aimed at nvida pc gamers. If you're like me (a pc gamer), the shield is a no brainer.
If this is something for the family to watch tv on in the living room, the dreamlink would be the better choice, and if you source them out properly you could get 2 or 3 of these on different tvs around the house for almost the same price as one shield.
Also, the shield you won't be able to record tv on.
The t1plus also gives you access to the google play store, something that the t1 lacked.
The real question is do you currently have a shield..and if so would you want to part with it?
get formuler z prime it is better than dm t1 and even plus trust me .
i dont know if it records or not . the remote also it is just like v+ it is good quality. not like dm t1 cheap i hate it .
i also forgot to mention. it has one of the best Ui i have ever seen . trust me . u dont believe that you are using iptv stb it is like sat/cable ui smooth epg laods fast . Vod smooth . menu every is better than those mag and dm t1 i dont know why no one is mentioning this reciever even it is the same company who created dm t1
i checked now i think you can record , but u need to connect usb stick or external hdd . the remote control has a red button when i push that button it says cant find storage .
yes u can add more providers . u can add up to 10 providers...

Hi Can I Use the Dream Link T1 Plus With Av Cable ????
I used to have a dreamlink t1. I think if all you do is IPTV and use a mag compatible provider, I think it may work for you. If you want to use it for more than that, you will be slighted. It is all it is good for. It uses a very old version of Android. However if you want the best of all worlds, the Shield will meet your expectations. Even the Mibox will work as well on a budget. The Mibox is sold at Walmart. Haven't be disappointed with either Android TV boxes. The shield is my daily driver. No issues.
