How easy would it be for someone on the provider end to use my MAC address in an emulator, thereby causing me problems because my MAC is being used on multiple devices? Or am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything here, it's possible. But as thunder said, no normal reseller would do this.
Some reason sellers have access to many many servers.
I personally created accounts for myself just to check specific channels or help walk customers through stuff. I've even given away free accounts that I don't really use. I can't imagine ever needing to steal a customers account :)
Only a really bad provider would do something like that . Realistically the worst thing a provider would do is MAC nap you. You're really missing something here and not understanding the whole concept. Multiple devices only work on services that have multi-room, and they would have to physically input your MAC into that device in order make it work, which would only work in an emulator or kodi/spmc. It's not worth their damn time to do that shit.
MAC napping on the other hand, is them either being lazy, or being a fucking asshole. It's when they don't release your MAC from their board. It does happen from time to time and it sucks. I've had it happen with iptvhut.nl and thankfully I now have resellers who take care of their customers and answer emails and questions. So I know I won't have that happen again.
Just make sure your reseller is reputable, and you won't have anything to worry about.
