I have an NVidia Shield box, what are my best options to set up IPTV on it? I'm new to all this so any advice would be very appreciated. Just looking for Canadian/USA channels but don't know where/how to start.

Just about any service you will find in the /r/iptvreviews subreddit will work on the shield. Personally I use fab and they have been terrific for CA/USA streams.
just use TVirl. Uses the excellent Live Channels app which integrates with other streaming sources (such as my FTA). So i can have my FTA and IPTV all play together and zap between them.
Very stable software, EPG setup is easy.
I have a shield. Just using Kodi on it will give you access to just about any provider. Or, there are apps such as Perfect Player or STB Emulator :-)
Providers such as Vader also have APKs you can install.
I use Nvidia ShieldTV .
Perfect Player and STBemu work fine on it for IPTV, so does Kodi .
FabIPTV is what I recommend. Highly rated over at /r/iptvreviews and works great.
/u/fabiptv can help you out.
Best solution is to your sell Nvidia Shield to me :-)
Shield is seriously overkill for IPTV haha. It's like buying a Ferrari as your grocery getter. It will work perfectly fine though as it's android and there are lots of android apk out there to emulate stb's.
To each their own. Some people want an STB because they want the simplicity of what they are used to. Some people want a dreamlink because they NEED, no demand the ability to pause live tv because they can't miss those few seconds when they go pee (or can't wait till commercial).
It always comes down to a personal preference. I use a mag because it fits my needs, and it works every single time I hit a button. No app crashes, no adds, nothing. But that is just my personal opinion and experience. I tried an STB emulator and it sucked, was buggy, crashed a lot, and VOD didn't work worth shit.
But again it's all personal.
Any of the newer services that specialize in android applications will work very well with the Shield.
FabIPTV, who has been represented here already, is a good choice. As is Epicstreams and Vaderstreams. All 3 offer very good US/CAN content and have excellent kodi builds or dedicated android apps for their service that would run very well on a Shield.
The older services, like Express, IPGuys, Crown, etc, will not typically work as well with the Shield, even when using an STB Emulator. Some people have success, but many others experience issues trying to use those services on an emulator on the Shield.
I have had so many Android shit boxes from the hills of China. Eventually they will stop getting support and they don't run true Android OS. Like everything, you pay for what you get. You will have peace of mind knowing you have the top performance box on the market with updates. If buying it make sure you buy the 2017 version. Expensive but worth it.
This seems like a good place to ask this. I have a Mi Box for the living room and I personally am using a Shield. My requirements are:
1)Uses Android or Android TV, Kodi is too advanced for my father who needs something just like a normal STB.
2)USA centric and reliable, it needs to use an ETB guide and have all the normal channels. Basically, I just want it to work and be mostly idiot proof because my father just isn't good at tech. Catchup would be a nice option.
3)Preferably my father and I can both watch TV using the same subscription but that isn't an absolute requirement if the service is cheap enough.
Looking around FabIPTV and Epic Streams seems to be good options but I am not sure if either of them offers an android app.
Oh and _swarm, how exactly does TVirl work? How do you get your IPTV provider information to sync with it?
Install SPMC 16.6.81, and use that instead of Kodi 16/17 (since I'm kinda guessing that is the initial reason you bought the Nvidia shield).
Then for IPTV through that, try these 3 in specific order:
FabIPTV - Free to try for 24 hours, which is obviously a huge plus, and if it works well enough for your specific needs then go for it.
Vader Streams - My personal favorite, but I don't know of any free trials. Hence me giving Fab/EPIC the first look edge in this particular instance.
Smoothstreams - More sports oriented and doesn't offer as much overall as the above 2, but it's US channel selection mostly (sometimes they overwrite channels with random sports coverage) covers all the mainstream biggies and it's worth a potential look if the first 2 don't sell you for whatever reason.
If any paid iptv struggles on a firestick, a Nvidia shield wouldn't help you.
Lot's of Epicstream customers are using nvidia shield. I don't personally use it, but I also use Kodi on another platform.
Here is a quick blurb that covers most details about Epicstream. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ping me.

All our Admins at FabIPTV use Nvidia Shields. It has worked well for us. If their is an issue with our service and Nvidia Shields, guess who is going to want to fix it.. we are.
As for Dreamlink and STB, forget about.. there is a group of people wants you to think they are great.. they are not. Dreamlinks are a POS.
