VPN: Yes or No?

by c47v3770

Do y'all use VPN? If so, do you connect to a server outside the US? Does it even matter if you are connecting to a server in the US or somewhere else in terms of..."privacy"? ISP is Comcast.

Thanks!

In most situations you do not need a vpn. It will help protect your privacy and can help if your ISP throttles iptv. That's about it. Most kodi or iptv related websites have adds for vpn and recommend them via their affiliate link to make revenue but for most people a vpn is not necessary. I know Comcast throttles torrents but I am not sure about iptv.

depends what you are trying to do but for privacy, it doesn't matter your shit is encrypted automatically through most vpn...but get a vpn it is gonna help in so many ways you can't even understand yet but after the govt. gets rid of basically all the internet protections, you are gonna really need it, just to keep ad companies from owning all your data(they pretty much do now anyways)...

I route my IPTV connection through to my US based VPS over IPSEC. I find this configuration has less buffering for whaatever reason.

I only use a VPN for torrents nowadays. I have AT&T Gigapower (100 Mbps) so any VPN I was using on my Fire Stick, router, whatever was dropping my speeds way WAY down. Like to the point of being unusable (I've seen it as bad as 1 Mbps). This was with PIA and IPVanish. Didn't matter. My streams were constantly shitting the bed throughout the day. Would go check my connection with a speed app & confirmed it was indeed the VPN (or whatever server it was using at the time) that was the problem.

So that's really the rub with using an always-on VPN I've found out. Sometimes the speed is passable, sometimes not, and it just flip flops throughout the day all day. They oversell their product to where it just ends up being too hit or miss for me personally, so I just don't use it anymore with my IPTV services. I had Comcast before as well & they never said anything.
