Iptv backend that I can use with kodi to schedule recordings?

by c_wolsey

I my quest to stop paying Rupert Murdock so much money I just signed up for a premium IPTV account. It is impressive but now I need to replicate what our sky box does to sell it to the wife. I have sorted out epg, now I need to sort out a backend so I works with recording and pausing live TV in Kodi.

Most of the pvr backends Seam to be for tuner cards. Has anyone managed to make it work with iptv m3u playlists?

If you have a PC running 24/7, you could try Emby. It definitely supports if and m3u play lists. Don't think you can edit the channel line up, though, so if you have something like fab enjoy your 8900+ channel guide.

You could pay for 2 streams. Have Emby set to record things on one. It'll auto convert to mkv, and have it dump the mkv to a network drive that Kodi can see. Then you can play all the recordings in Kodi but still have the recording capability of Emby.

But ya. Much more involved.

On Kodi using Tvheadend (as least working on my Raspberry Pi 3), then yes, you can choose whatever channel numbers you want for individual streams from an M3U playlist, and also schedule recordings to a hard disc, etc.

The only trouble is it takes ages to set up, but it works.

Good luck. I've been looking for years. The only way to get good recording and pausing is to have a PVR client built that supports it. All these services only ever offer is a "video add on". You catch a couple that use the simple PVR client, but I have yet to find one that has their own PVR Client. There was one "xt pvr client". And it had pause and recording and even epg for recorded shows but the dev built it with a kill switch and he suddenly killed it and that was like a year ago.

Perhaps buy a mag box. I don't own one but believe they can record and should work with any decent iptv provider.

Honestly I’m not sure but I do know that that’s the best option

I am hoping I can use mythtv it has a wiki page that says it should be possible https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/IPTV I think it should be.

Quote ....

"HTTP live streaming with MPEG 2 TS segments over HTTP is supported. Live media broadcasts can be recorded with the IPTVRecorder, on VOD services can be played with the internal player. "

Dreamlink T1 Plus - currently can record in real time and they are working on a scheduled recording update. EPG interface same as main stream TV. Your wife will love it.
