I am tired of the 40,000 channels and groups that I don't want ever watch. I just want sports and us channels. These providers don't seem to have a filter system but they have a m3u file. Can I mod a file on my own make a shared link on dropbox then load that link in my perfect player with my exact channels.
yes you can edit/modify your m3u file but to my knowledge it will not recieve auto-udates from your sub. You will be have to do manual updates regarding any changes to links deleted/modified/added which also means you will have to do your mod all over again.
I know a program that can do that, SimpleTV from http://plstonline.org/ I used it both to edit my playlists and watch them on there, very easy if they are already in sections so you can just delete whole groups, or else just highlight and delete a bunch.
Oh yeah, one of the BEST features on there is it can detect dead links and mark them, then you can show only the dead ones and delete them all. I used this to search for free lists on pastebin.com.

Ok I manually updated my file. That took awhile but it has the channels I want and I also moved stuff around to fit my needs. I am not sure how the guide will work with this.

Yes, you can modify, but I don't know a program to do that for you. You can edit it like a normal plain text in your favorite editor. Learn about M3U structure and do it yourself! Good luck.
