Newbie - would appreciate some help

by Flick_My_Bean_Geoff

I'm looking to get set up with IPTV and have seen a friends set up they bought from someone and I like it.

Basically they have a small box with all the channels, where they can see the list of channels and then select the one they want, then it plays.

Now, the confusion I have is there's so many boxes and types. I see "mag boxes" mentioned on here and then I see skybox boxes online etc.

Then I see "EPG". Does this mean the basic channel listing like I mentioned or is the EPG a fancier thing like the "Sky" sattelite service.

Then I hear of android boxes online, are these the same thing?

Sorry for the basic questions, I have read the other newbie threads but I still need help in searching what I want.

IPTV is not as simple as it once was. At one point not long ago, you just bought a MAG box, subscribed to IPGuys or IPTVExpress, and you were done.

You can still do that but it may not give you the best experience for you. If you tell us what you are looking for in channel selection, how tech savvy you are and what kind of internet speeds you can realistically expect from your setup we can likely point you in the right direction. Or at least get you started.

EPG just means they offer an Electronic Programming Guide. Similar to what a cable provider interface gives you.
