I am considering buying an android box and setting up STB Emulator for my parents. My question is, do the colored buttons on the remote work like you would expect them to on an actual MAG 254 box? Here is the android box I'm considering. It also has a picture of the remote that comes with it.

The buttons wont work like the Mag Out of the box but you should be able to Map them using STB.
I've never tried it but there are setting within STB that allows you to map buttons
