Setting up a VPN for my mag - iptv

by Madmadridista

Hi I am new to this space and I recently bought one mag box 256w1(wifi) and an itv subscription. I am getting good number of channels but , my main intention was to watch football in sky and BT sports. But unfortunately I get two "sky golf" two "sky main events" two "sky f1", but no sky football. I contacted softiptv support .They told me to use VPN( don't know why) and asked me to download the hotspot shield on my device and set up VPN. I have no idea how to do that. Can you please help?

the provider i use you dont need a VPN plus VPN doesnt work on MAG devices. Service i use is Horizon Hosting - Amazing - Fight last night was 1080p no buffering at all and had 6 links. The guys in there group were blow away with it being such a huge fight. They dont have any issues with blocking or channels not working - if they do its fixed in 30 secs. My advice - Move provider to Horizon - i have the 256 with them and will never go anywhere else.

You can still stream a Mag through a VPN by setting the VPN in your router. Some router FW even allows policy routing, which can associate a device like your Mag to the VPN and all other devices in your house non-VPN.

I ended up doing this for my Dreamlink and Mi Box as the VPN apps wouldn't always auto-connect and training my kids to turn on a VPN before watching a kid's show isn't going to happen.

I don't work for them at all, just giving my opinion on a service that's all.

I've tried many and there the best.

And as for this thread it was in regards to a VPN and all providers should know that a VPN isn't supported on mag devices. Just saying......

If you're actually getting the same channel listed twice (and the second isn't intended as an alternative/backup or in a different quality), or the channel called for example "Sky Sports Football" is showing a different channel; a VPN will not sort this, it's the provider's problem.

And if you're not in the UK (guessing from your username you aren't), a VPN is not absolutely necessary to watch football as football IPTV streams are only being blocked in the UK.

are you in the UK? if so you will need a VPN. The EPL can and are blocking streams in real time from the most of the UK's main ISP's. No idea how to configure a mag box but if you have an old PC lying around its fairly simple to make a VPN gateway to route all your devices through.
