Can someone please explain to me why people say Kodi sucks for IPTV?

by 420Steezy

I keep hearing people bash Kodi when it comes to IPTV and often suggest getting something like a Dreamlink T1 or a MAG 256 etc...

But my question is why? Do these boxes offer better features or stability? (Such as smoother frame rates/better picture etc)

I mean, I don’t mind getting one of these boxes if it they are in fact better.

Hope to get some insight from some of you MAG or Dreamlink owners.

People need to disassociate the Kodi software with chinese android TV boxes.

Kodi on a decent rig is an awesome piece of software, and handles IPTV very very well, as it does virtually all content.

Yea, currently the Stalker Client add-on for Kodi only supports basic functions. No VOD, sort of shitty EPG, no time shifting. It can stream live TV just fine though. Mag boxes are made by infomir, the same company that writes the backend software that a lot of providers use, so the boxes obviously support all those functions.

If your provider has their own Kodi add-on, this may not apply. It only holds true for Stalker based IPTV providers.

It really boils down to what you want out of your IPTV, how important kodi is to your cord cutting setup, and what sacrifices you are willing to make on the IPTV side.

But for starters, those dedicated boxes are more user friendly to those "tech challenged" looking for a plug and play solution, have better supporting software for the majority of providers you are going to find, and generally offer less potential room for outside error when you are having issues.

With the exception of one Kodi based provider that i'm aware of, at least among the select few ones out there that actually mange to offer a non-worthless EPG, you also have to give up the catchup/timeshift feature if it's being offered otherwise as well. Which basically amounts to a built in and no hassle DVR, and a pretty big deal if you used to be somebody who got a lot of use out of one on legit cable.

There are still bugs and Kodi fixes bugs with every new update. Its also not 64-bit, but Kodi 18 is already in beta and 64Bit wiil be supported so it should work better in 18. Also alot of companies do not upgrade their hardware like us. check out a free trial with our Kodi addon.

3000+ channels - VOD - Catch up TV - use any device - easy setup - No ISP lock - US, UK and international line up. You may also use applications outside of Kodi with this service.

With Kodi, wouldn't it be an app running on your system, then the addon acting as another app requiring more resources just under Kodi of course! Which would then create more "possible" lag time which would affect the final output? (Like running chrome and opening tabs that all need system resources) This would include however whatever load the server already has.

MAG is made for TV, does 1 thing and does it ok, I don't use it.

Andorid crappy chinese boxes including your Dreamlink, are a Phone OS pretending to show TV with 50 useless apps that none work and give you a no TV feeling, unless you wanna fuk around with Android and apps everyday.

That is all fine if you never owned a proper STB and a Android Box is your first foray into IPTV, go ahead give it a go.
