UK - Recommendation for provider & hardware?

by Masam10

Hi there,

Newbie here and I'm sure you get a lot of these so apologies in advance. I've had a look at the Google Sheets doc but it's a lot of info to digest and trying to figure out what best suits me was getting a little tough.

I'm looking for a recommendation on an IPTV setup (both provider and what kind of hardware to run it on).

As I'm UK based, my only priority is getting the UK premium channels including BT Sport, Sky sports and Sky movies. Other countries like the US are a nice bonus but really won't add much value to me.

In an ideal world I'd like to use it on an Amazon Fire stick but I am really not bothered about the hardware I use and would rather pay more for the better and easy to use UI (my non technical girlfriend will also be a user).

Primarily I am after HD quality with no buffering - cost is not a problem and I'll gladly pay more for a working service. I'm on a 200MB FTTH line so bandwidth shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

/r/IPTVReviews is rather good for seeing what folks think of some services. Though be aware, some folks that review are connected to the product. Not completely rampant, just take every +ve and -ve with a grain of salt.

I can tell you what I use, but I've not tried enough different variations to know what any of the main differences are.

I use an nVidia Shield (choose it so that I can also play games from my pc on the TV) and use KODI on that. Works brilliantly. I use simple epg and it feels just like browsing a normal TV guide when channel surfing.

I'm subscribed to Smoothstreams and FABiptv. Fab has been great until recently when they have had a bunch of problems with the new powers in the UK to stop football streams. I usually use Smoothstreams for sport and FAB for everything else (though in the past Fab have on occasion worked better for sky sports, again they was until their recent problems).

I've had flawless in the past and heard good things about them recently. If I was going to get a new sub I'd try them first.

However what is the best practice is to get trials for a few, test them out and see what you like. Then when you choose one, only pay month to month. That way if they have problems then you can move on without much lost.

Something that might be worth it (though I'm only just starting to look at it, so I don't know too much) is getting one that allows a VPN. With all the new laws, probably worth it to protect yourself.

Good luck!

Get used to watch football on europian tv sports channels I know , you being a englishman need comentatory, half time analysis but trust me you will never miss a match As someone said here sky and bt combined dont show all 380 games of the season And there are channels wich replay games through that day or next day so if you miss a match live you will watch it later

If you can afford 200Mbps fiber, why not pay proper Sky and no need to sweat your self with buffering? A few pints less a month and enjoy it.
