IPVanishVPN and vrprvpv are both apps available through fire tv App Store . Both are piss easy to use and work a treat
You can side load mostly any VPN app easily, just need to use a provider
Go to troypiont.com - he has some great tutorials on installing all kinds of things on your Fire tv.
Is your router a dd wrt enabled router? if you don't know then likely it isn't. So you would have to root your fire tv box to have the ability to install vpn onto it. Which has it's own set of issues and is not for the weak of heart regarding technology. There is another solution, get a mobile dd wrt router which you can install vpn software onto. There are many to choose from at various cost. Personally I use PIA (Private Internet Access) which you can currently get a 2 yr sub for $39 usd, but look around. Basically you bridge your device (fire tv) to your primary router through the mobile router. Instructions are fairly comprehensive. Here is a link (copy and paste) to one on amazon.
