Client of mine bought one of their boxes. From what I can tell it's just a sub $100 android box with Kodi preconfigured and sold for like $300 of $400. Felt bad for the guy that bought it. Doesn't even have play store and the custom UI is godawful.

complete rip off i laid into these guys on facebook before and they ended up banned from some sales groups. another one that does this i http://nitehawktech.com/
Aww, yeah a lot of people fell into this trap.
He might be out of luck, but I'd recommend trying to help him set up stb emu and see what you can do for him. At least theres a chance he can use the box. If it goes well, stb emu will allow him to connect to any stalker based server and should make him happy.
While not perfect, Surely better than what he's using right now.
Does he have access to a file manager?
If not, he can go into settings if it runs Android (developer options) and turn on USB debugging. Use adb to install apk.
You can even do it over the network as well.
