VPN for IPTV?

by o0adam0o

I'm looking into getting an IPTV service. Ive seen that some people use VPN. I'm familiar with it being used for torrents. But will I need this for IPTV service if I'm in the US? I'm not sure what provider I'm going with yet. Why do people use VPN for IPTV?

Another reason that people aren't mentioning is that it's part of the mythology. Some people need to use a VPN to improve their experience, or even connect at all due to ISP blocking. That's turned into it being another way for the restreamers and resellers to keep you on an imperfect service by deflecting the blame. They don't profit directly, but you stay subscribed hoping this next idea will work out.

For a start not all providers allow it.

Some people use it to change their location. Others use it to hide their tracks. And then there are some who don't use it at all. It comes down to preference and like /u/totallihype mentioned, it's not permitted on all providers. Hope this helps

Aren't there legal implications for iptv considering copyrighted material is being streamed? Even if your isp allows it, can't you still get in trouble?

IMO we're all buying contraband goods from criminals. You wouldnt buy weed online without encryption and this is no different. Here in the UK we're about to enter a period of intense government monitoring in the guise of keeping us safe. The new investigatory powers bill will require uk ISP's log our activity so it makes sense to wrap up all your data. Also in the UK one of the biggest ISP's is also the provider of the content we're all stealing, you'd be mad to be getting IPTV and pulling it through their servers unencrypted. Obviously that doesnt apply to you in the US, just putting it out there.

Unless you have some ISP block, avoid VPN at all costs.

not needed unless you're in the UK and wanting to watch EPL. IPTV is not like torrenting where VPN is a must.
