Hey guys,
I currently live in France and the options for sports tv and whatnot are not very good, especially considering how much they charge. I use mobdro every now and again but it doesn't allow for dvr'ing. I have heard people suggesting settv, gearstv, and nitro among others.
I would like to know people's experience with the above services(or others) and what makes them stand out. Do thy allow for recording? Do they have tv guides? I have an android box that works well enough, a 1gbps connection via my fiber provider , and would like something , especially being football season is here. Thanks in advance
All providers regarding recording will be the same, no difference. You'll need special software and or hardware to record, but most people use the free Linux software called tv headend (warning, it's not for beginners). It should work with nearly any provider.
If you're looking for timeshifting/catchup tho, this will vary from provider to provider. Timeshift is essentially the server Pvrs a few hours or days of a channel for you and you can rewind (if you use the proper hardware with it).
Also, you don't need your gigabit Internet. In general, even Netflix recommends 5mbps per HD feed. Iptv as you will soon find out doesn't offer full HD on any 24/h channels. Some providers may for a special event, but even so the bitrate is much less than Netflix.
Likely, if youre looking to save a couple bucks, you could get away with a smaller internet plan, since no websites are going to serve you gigabit speeds. Additionally, if you're using wireless in your house the gigabit is just money down the drain.
I too have gigabit and I only saturate my connection with Usenet servers, which is another great way to get full 1080p and 4k content but of course you won't find any live sports using that method :(
Lots of providers to choose from tho. You will want to try 3 of 4 and see what you like best. Most people don't stick with just one as they all have issues.
Right now my goto is epic as their hd channels are some of the best (for iptv anyways) and they are always improving on their hosting providers (avoid and providers using ovh) and most importantly, never pay for more than one month at a time or risk losing your money!
Good luck!
