I'm pretty big into home theatres and home automation, including but not limited to htpc installs and well, obviously everyone here already knows my involvement with iptv.

Being as integration is one of the things I pretty much do for a living, there comes a point when you just need to pull up your socks and separate things if you truly want the absolute best. In this case, iptv is one of those things that really need to be isolated as a stand alone service.

I've spent many years trying to tie iptv into my htpc, which now consists of thousands of dollars worth of server racks, rti tech controllers, zwave controllers, Alexa, flirc remotes, and yes, even an nvidia shield (which I go on to explain in many posts does not do iptv well).

No iptv solution that I've been able to come up with is as good as my parents mag or dreamlink, however tvheadend does serve a purpose and is pretty cool to make a custom pvr that has unlimited recording and allows playback through kodi.

But really, if you want the best iptv, you'll need to cough up the 90 bucks for a dedicated box (trust me, this is cheap in the grand scheme)

Also if you wanna see some video reviews of different boxes check out the sticky over in /r/iptvgta I did some video reviews of different software as well as boxes there

Use KODI + Simple IPTV Client. Then use the official KODI remote from play or appstore. Makes navigating the channels really easy. Also in the PVR section of settings in KODI expand the menu to 'Expert level' and in the General tab make sure 'synchronise Channel Groups with backend' is enabled.

that should do the trick.

hope this helps

If you can't find the channel you want, you need to go in simple iptv settings and make groups you want and disable the stuff you don't.

You can also just edit your m3u file by hand and rearrange it and remove things so that you know exactly where channels are within Kodi.

I use an old laptop HTPC with OpenElec/Kodi with IPTV Simple Client (m3u). With the source grouping I can easily switch between US/UK or sports as per my needs plus EPG.

So far happy with experience. Although will admit have an inclination of going towards a Dreamlink T1+ like dedicated IPTV box experience as well (No scheduled reocording only deal breaker for now)

I've heard that androidTV (Nvidia or mibox) with TVirl is pretty awesome. Just for watching love TV and guide though, for the cable like experience I think you have to get dreamlink.

Have you tried ProgTV or Perfect Player on your HTPC? Both can be a pain to get setup, but once they are they can create a pretty "cable" like feel in the guide. ProgTV even has PiP.

VLC player is pretty good. Give it a bash. I use it on my HTPC sometimes for quickness.

Windows with TV Guide Full Screen epg. It's in the official Kodi forums. Install that, then all you have to do is assign the channels from your m3u file and it will always be there when you click on it.

The only sticky part might be generating your .xmltv file. You can make one for the channels you want at the webgrabplus website.

Here's a screenshot of what mine looks like. Best part is that the TGFS and webgrabplus are free to use. Just takes some time to learn.

Oh, and use a Microsoft Media Center remote. It has all the functions to control KODI and it's cheap.
