US cable commercials

by artonink

this is more or a rant than anything but

what the hell is wrong with americans? how the hell can you pay for cable where seemingly 50% of the programming are commercials, it's outrageous

fortunately i also happen to have access to UK channels which is still bad but at least watchable, but US channels are pointless unless you happen to be doing something else at the same time

is this a recent development or has it always been like this, just can't understand how people can pay for it unless its like a few bucks a month

for the uninitiated i wouldn't put much stock in US offerings, other sources seem to be better

It's America, under educated and over medicated :)

Yeah it's beyond ridiculous. They even go back to some shows after commercials to roll the end credits! It's been like that for years.

it really is garbage i usually have like 3 shows i watch at once just to switch between during commercials

I don't watch stuff live anymore. I used to have a dvr from dish so I would dvr stuff on Hopper and watch later. Or stream on kodi/netflix.. I used to often start stuff 30mins later after leaving it paused. Saved a lot of time fastforwarding through commercials.

Unfortunately, I no longer have that option with IPTV being live with no dvr option. I guess saving $50/mo is worth losing dvr option..

same in canada and for good package of channels its $120

You will be amazed that most paid cable channels in US also got commercials, just like free local channels. I guess that helps cable or satellite providers sell DVR for customers to skip commercials. Sometimes with premiere or new TV episodes, I am willing to put up with commercials, since I don't want to wait for on-demand stuff uploaded hours later.

This is the main reason why i dont subscribe to cable or iptv service anymore, it made me thank god that people are providing all the entertainment i would need for free and without ads on the internet. I almost went insane seeing all the ads on US channels.

I live in the US and I rarely watch anything but movies or on demand like netflix etc, and it always amazes me just how many commercials are on when I watch cable channels once or twice a year. I guess people are used to it?

The content seems to be the same no matter where you're viewing. Discovery UK is the same as Discovery US is the same as Discovery Canada, and even Discovery Mexico. Problem is most UK programming is 8 hours ahead of west coast US so when I have time to watch everything's off air or it's infomercials.

We are a consumer economy. If you don't want to watch commercials, cspan, PBS or HBO are available options.
