Need Suggestion For Non Technical Mom

by smrdave

I setup my Mom with a NVIDIA Shield, I installed her apps and setup a Kodi build for her. She is not very good with Kodi. I am looking for something that has its own Android App that I can setup and she can use. What do you guys recommend?

I would put her sub in STB EMU PRO (mag interface) has to be most simple once in portal.

But if sub allows user/pass aswell many do, some don't depending on who she uses.

Use maybe Kodi addon (install say her subs addon and like 2 movie ones thats it, make simple as possible)

And m3u url to apps like perfect player, own apps, iptv app.

But I hazard a guess that she will find STB EMU most easiest once set up properly.

My advice would be to try STB Emu first since it's the cheapest option. It's a "mag emulator" and you can see how that works for you.

That is how I use my shield, but there are quite a few issues that you guys might run into, depending on the server. Don't get discouraged though.

If the stb emu continues to cause issues, I'd them maybe invest in getting a mag. Or just sell the shield locally and pick up the mag, and take her for a nice steak dinner with the money you saved! :D

My parents are both old seniors and they have a mag and dreamlink. Even the dreamlink is a bit too much for them. They both prefer the mag!

I would recommend looking around for a serviced that has a full epg otherwise your mom will not know whats up. This happens to me all the time.

Outside of selling the NVIDIA Shield and getting your mom a MAG box, Perfect Player might be an improvement

Yeah I agree. The only really user friendly apk I've seen is the DOL apk which only runs on dreamlink/formuler, and TVirl which has some real limitations.

You can skin kodi and fix a few settings and make the home screen as simple as possible, but it's still pretty clumsy for just watching tv.

I might also recommend Smart IPTV to the list but it's been awhile since I've used it.

StbEmu is really simple, but doesn't run so well with the regular android tv remote.

Oh and maybe check out the Set TV apk. I believe they're specifically aimed at non technical people.
