the shield is a powerful android box that can do iptv through emulators, kodi or other apps. mag and dreamlink are dedicated iptv boxes and setup is very simple (everything "just works"). If its a straightforward experience you want get a dreamlink or mag. if you want to do more than iptv and have some patients the shield is ok but it is more expensive.
Get the mag 254, easy to set up and works with almost all services.
I also recommend the buzztv (xpl2000) box, it has direct iptv and also kodi but it is a little more expensive than mag254.

Personally I think nvidia shield is overkill for IPTV. Fire TV will be more than enough with Kodi for IPTV providers.
Dreamlink & MAG are different as in you don't run Kodi on it. They come with native apps which are pre-configured for good IPTV experience. They have remotes with dedicated buttons for Guide, VOD, etc. On the other hand these boxes are limited in what they can do. They are good for IPTV, but they may not offer extras like Netflix or playback local files on your NAS.
I personally like Kodi, but it totally depends on what you are looking for.
I would suggest Android TV (Nvidia shield is best experience but comes with high price tag Or Firestick for cheap but good enough device).
You can use it for IPTV but also has flexibility to use for other streaming services or apps.
I would like to do more then just kodi or iptv but iptv is the main focus. The nvidia shield is too expensive i was ether thinking about the amazon fire 4k box from 2015 or waiting for the 2017 amazon 4k box

Anyone ever try the amazon 4k box from 2015 on iptv?

If you're just starting out and want a simple, straightforward experience, pick up a MAG254. If you absolutely must have certain Android apps on the same device, get a NVIDIA Shield or a Xiaomi MiBox 3. Don't confuse the fact that the Dreamlink T1 and T1+ run Android with them having the same experience as a proper Android TV device, it's definitely not the same and while DreamOnline (the dedicated IPTV app on the Dreamlink boxes) is great, the Android experience on these devices are a drawback
