[NOOB Question] Is a VPN necessary when using IPTV?

by commercant

If I were downloading a movie torrent I would use a VPN to obscure personal information. Is the same necessary for IPTV (for live TV or catchup)? I apologize for the noob question - I don't know how IPTV works behind the scenes and what is necessary.

If your ISP is not blocking your IPTV provider, you don't need one.

Iptv doesn't run like p2p torrents. You are actually involved in uploading with torrents so if you get caught, they will come after you. Streaming is very different though because you are not uploading anything as an end-user.

If you are doing anything not strictly legal, or if you just dont want anyone to be able to see what you are accessing, I'd be using a vpn regardless of whether you have to or not. people not using a vpn will just get all iptv servers blocked sooner or later, they already block premier league games on a lot of the bigger providers (and it amazes me that if they can block premier league games, why the hell dont they block everything all the time, since its not exactly legal anyway).

Depends on where you live. Most places it's legal gray area to stream content so you should be fine except for in the UK. Even then, they won't come after you like for torrents for just using IPTV. It's the providers who might get into trouble. So, you should be fine.

I don't personally think it's required. Use it if you are paranoid, otherwise carry on.

It's not strictly necessary, but it's good to have if it doesn't negatively impact your experience too much. If your ISP blocks IPTV, on the other hand...

Ooohhhhh yeahhhh

it mainly depends on your internet provider and if they are throttling your speeds some iptv have vpn built into their servers and others don't its hard to know for sure unless you actually have iptv I sell two services one with vpn (mostly for international use) and a premium service with no vpn built in and everyones case is different

Depends on the service. With mine u don’t need one.
