IPTV (Epicstream) not working while on vacation

by wiz9999

I am on vacation in south America and brought my box with me. My epicstream IPTV is NOT working.

I am using a very low quality, third world grade internet connection. Speed is 2mbps during the day, and goes up to 20mbps at 10pm.

However all the following are working perfectly: Terrarium TV Kodi Netflix YouTube Skype Video

pretty much any video streaming is working fine, with no freezing, no issues at all, but with EPICstream.... I get it to turn on... sometimes I get the EPG to work, sometimes its just coming up blank, and no feed is coming through at all.

Very frustrated. How can everything else video related work, but not Epicstream? Is there something I'm missing?

Dude you're in a third world country where everything is choked to shit. The fact that everything else is working is because they all have localized servers/localized copies of things. It's like you don't understand how localization of servers and resources works. There is probably nothing that can be done to fix this because of where you have decided to go.

The only other thing I would suggest is if your router has the ability to, connect to a vpn and see if the ISP is actually throttling the bandwith, which I do highly doubt. You're probably just too far away from the servers and latency is just too high. You're the guy playing doom on a 9600 baud modem when everyone else had 56k. You're going to have a very bad time.

Hey

As my email stated to you, we have no servers in South America. So it is possible that there is poor routing to our North American servers. It is also possible that your ISP is throttling us.

Honestly it is a complete guess from my side. All I can say is we have no system wide issues that would be impacting you and we have no special settings or blocks to make the experience worst in South America.

My recommendation:

  • Increase cache
  • Switch ISP
  • Try a VLC / M3U8 trial on a computer to rule out MAG vs ISP issues

Does epicstream have different servers you can try? Latency could be a real issue. Netflix, youtube etc use different more robust streaming methods that are more bandwidth friendly and auto adjust bitrate on the fly. FYI I have the same problem streaming sources FROM that part of the world. Most of the channels from Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, etc can get pretty choppy. I spent a whole bunch of time in Mexico and most of it was pretty unusable for anything streaming related, except the mobile LTE coverage.

Since you're on vacation you're probably also going to be at the mercy of whatever network is actually getting you online as well. This can vary from a Single Cable or DSL modem or even 3g wireless service to some archaic router with multiple wifi jumps to get to you.
