I’m using an Nvidia shield, so an apk or kodi addon would be fine. I’m coming from Directv and trying to make the wife’s transition as easy as possible.. who has the nicest looking guide out there? And who do you guys recommend for service? I’m in USA, looking for USA content, nhl, and ufc ppv
If you have a Shield then use Live Channels and TVirl. Any provider that gives you an m3u and xmltv will work. The only one I can recommend is Vader because it's the only one I use.

Just get a Dreamlink T1+ or T2, and save all the channels you watch to the favorites group. Then view only the favorite group in the EPG. I can only recommend vaders (I use pm-club which is a vaders reseller), which in my experience vary rarely buffers or drops the channel. This is my setup which is very wife friendly.
We only view the USA, Canada, UK, Premium Movie Channels, which are all saved to our favorites. Also Dreamlink boxes catchup (shows already aired) feature works really well and is easy to use. Here is a photo of what the dreamlink EPG looks like. All shows in red, are cached, and can be watched live or from the beginning.
I can only comment about Epicstream (as I am an Epicstream customer) and they have probably close to 100% EPG for USA and UK content. Try the trial from one of the resellers /r/epicstream
You could try either ivue or mayfair tv guide. They give a full 7 day EPG which can be customised to hide channels you dont watch and move them around in order of viewing preference. It initially takes a bit of setting up and requires you to have a provider who supplies a Kodi add on as you need to manually add all channels to favourites but it worth it as it gives a great viewing experience IMO. I use Mayfair Guide pro at a small cost per month ($2.50) and Vaders would recommend both
Guide and UI are two different things. My favorite UI for just guide that I've actually used is probably Formuler+DOL, Kodi (w right skin), Android Live Channels, or iPlayTV (apple). StbEmu/MAG, and Perfect Player and most dedicated APKs are just Eh.
As far as actual EPG data Vaders is the best I've tried for US channels. Most providers have UK channels pretty well done. Still though there will be some channels with no info or incorrect EPG data that in order to fix you'd have to setup your own EPG.

I don't know, but good luck with making the wife happy if she's used to using Direct. IPTV is no replacement for a legit service. If you want to make it as close as possible then ditch Kodi and get a dedicated box. Dreamlink or Mag
