There is now a way to Adblock Live TV in realtime

by ad_hero

Hello, I'm hoping to get some general feedback on this interesting new idea I came up with.

I'm a developer who hates TV ads with a passion. Recently I made an experimental IPTV player (for Android) in an attempt to avoid being "adblasted" every 5 minutes.

ScreenShots: https://i.imgur.com/8xfp44c.png https://i.imgur.com/FXBnAzn.png https://i.imgur.com/Vk0kHIH.png https://i.imgur.com/GORrWPH.png http://adjammer.surge.sh/assets/img/...tected-nfl.jpg

The prototype uses Shazaam technology. It can detect ads instantly and will block ALL commercials on ANY live TV stream. Once detected it simply changes to another channel (without ads) for the duration of the adbreak.

Would anyone in the IPTV community be interested in this feature?

Would definitely like to test.

I find that all too often the several channels I might switch between to avoid commercials will all have commercials at the same time. It’s uncanny and really wonder if it’s not intentional.

What would be nice is a way to pre-buffer 15 minutes of a show and be able to watch it commercial free.

Wow looks very cool.

So is there a way to implement this on boxes like dreamlink and Mag.

Dreamlink is an android platform so I guess I could sideload the app, but it would not work with the IPTV portal Dream Online.

It certainly sounds like a noble idea and I'm sure it will have a lot of candidate users. Most people will hate adverts just as much as you.

Technical considerations (which might not be a concern for everyone):

  1. Would your player have codec support as good as i.e. VLC / MX Player ?
  2. Would your player have playback controls as good as i.e. VLC e.g. jump to time, audio offset shift, sub-title download etc ?
  3. Is there no way for this thing to work without some "cloud" ?
  4. Can your player be used as an external player by stbemu ?
  5. Can your player be used as an external player in kodi ? ( http://kodi.wiki/view/external_players )
  6. Does your player have a UI which is actually usable from distance? In other words will it be usable with a regular remote control on i.e. nvidia shield / some other android TV platform and not solely usable by finger poking a touch screen display ?

I think that's all I have for now

Personally I either just watch channels with no ads on them, or if a show airs with channels, watch it on Netflix or VOD.

Thanks to all those who registered interest for early access . I'll be in touch shortly as I take this out of the lab.

In the meantime feel free to reply to this comment with the channel you'd most like to see adblocked.
