Upgrade my Mag 254. Any difference in speed?

by MiamiSwede

So Im seeing all these new Mags coming out from infomir. I would like to get a 4k box. I like the Mag because of it's simplicity. no messing around. have a server. stick with it, simple. The android and KODI was IMO a pain in the neck with all installs here and there. I run iptvexpress and have tried probably 5-6 other providers. Most of them are buffering and slow and from where I'm sitting express is the fastest (given the selection of channels and their great catch back of a week) I'm sitting on a 50MBs line and the box is hardwired so shouldnt really be an issue

I does work decent with HD. So for you that have upgraded from a 254 to a newer mag. What box did you go with? Did you notice a difference in speed/load times. I know that it mostly depends on my cable but im stuck with the evil att and 50mbs is their fastest non fiber

50 mbps is fine for dual streaming. 4k has no content for now, I would stick with 254 this 2018 till IPTV providers upgrade to newer Stalker platform from Infomir, not all providers support newer MAG Devices.

Hey, I have a Mag256 and love it. I have used it with Epicstream, Express, OK2 and IPGuys. All the providers I just listed work great with the 256. It's so much faster (boot times and general loading) than the 254! I tried the Mag410 (Android), and the interface is super nice, but as u/Tamar1nd mentioned, no providers are compatible yet, not the ones I listed anyways.

Here's what I would recommend. If you have a 4K Smart TV then you have access to an application called Smart STB. You will have to check and see if your IPTV subscriber is supported, but if they are you can buy a license (very cheap) from Smart STB and set your TV up to access your service. Its far better than using a box as I found most boxes, the 4k ones, still only output at 1080p. I bought a dreamlink T1 plus (sp?) before switching to Smart STB and believe me its 1080p on its HDMI output, I could see my Samsung 4K UHD trying to upscale the image, it was horrible. There is a company (MyG...) that is making a 4k output TV box that comes with HDD option so you can PVR stuff. That's the only box I have seen to date. Just keep in mind when looking at other boxes, they might say 4K and have the resolution at 4K but you have view the Output section in the print.. make sure it doesn't say HDMI 1.4 1080p FULL HD. otherwise it's not a "true" 4K box. After switching to Smart STB (comes on Samsung and LG Smart TVs) I haven't looked back. My TV is also hard wired into my network.

Only reason I don't like the 256 is the lack of wireless capability. Otherwise I'd buy it.

Last year I had a nordic package with very high quality full HD channels and one channel Viasat Ultra HD 4k , a promo channel for the upcoming football season . I have 80 mb internet speed and that particular channel the 4k one was constantly buffering and would have loved to see it in a real test like a live game and amount of people streaming it, So yeah my internet speed may seem more than enough for 4k content on Netflix or Amazon but the real struggle is 4k live streaming , also becouse that package had high quality bitrate even on full HD channels , the 4K when it worked for few minutes the quality was fantastic , but my internet wasnt enough I think
